Pack Building Supply

Getting one answer out of the old system took thirty steps and a two-hour wait on hold. A family building supply yard switched, and now reads its cost and revenue at the end of every day.

Conneda Bounthanthy came back to her family's building supply yard on Midland Boulevard in Fort Smith, Arkansas about a year ago. Her parents own it, and she calls herself the office manager, with a caveat.

"I usually do it all. So I don't know what to call myself sometimes."

Coming back after time away is a particular kind of arrival. You inherit every habit the business has formed, including the software, and you have no history with any of it to explain why things are done the way they are done. So the first thing Conneda noticed about the point of sale was that she could not work it.

30 steps, and a phone call to find the 31st

The yard had been running RockSolid MAX since it opened. It was built for the trade, and it had the depth to prove it, but the depth was buried, and there were things she could do and things she could not, with no way to tell which was which without picking up the phone.

"I would have to always call the support team because I wasn't sure how to do something. And then it took us like 30 steps just to figure one thing out."

Calling support was the fallback, and the fallback had a schedule. She could only reach them in the morning, and in the afternoon it was an hour or two on hold, or a promise to call back later because they did not have enough staff to help her. By the time they did call back, she had often forgotten what she had called about. A question that takes thirty steps to answer and half a day to ask is a question that stops getting asked, and the business keeps running without ever being examined.

A recommendation from the Blish-Mize rep

Conneda decided the yard needed a different system. Changing the one tool a family business has used since the day it opened is a decision the whole family makes together, and it took some conversations before everyone was ready, which is the part of a software switch that no vendor controls and no demo addresses.

New to the industry, Conneda did what new people do and asked around. The recommendation came from a rep at Blish-Mize, the distributor the yard already buys from, which is how most of the useful information in this business travels. She priced one other option seriously. It came in at roughly a thousand dollars a month, with another thousand on top if the family ever opened a second location. Rundoo came in at about what the yard was already paying, with no second bill waiting on the other side of an expansion they would like to make but have not committed to yet.

"That was the main factor, was the pricing."

Live in July

The yard went live on Rundoo in July 2026, and a few months in, Conneda's summary of the whole transition is four words long.

"It was an easy transition."

The whole office runs the day on it now, and when a price or an item needs a change, anyone at the counter can make it on the spot instead of calling someone to ask how.

What she can see now

Ask her what changed and she starts with the end of the day rather than the register.

"Ever since we got the new system, I can tell how business is doing. I can tell how much we make at the end of the day. But with the new system it shows me a lot more than what the old one will show me, like the dashboards and the reports. It breaks it down for me, like the cost, the revenue."

The money moving in and out became legible at the same time. "Efficiency is definitely better," she says. "I like the deposits, it'll show you what's being deposited into your account." And when she has a question now, she gets an answer the same day she asks it. Asked whether she would tell another building supply dealer to switch, she did not qualify it: "Oh yes. Yes, for sure."
