Hiring In Industry

Since we were founded in 2021, our mission has stayed the same: to empower independent supply stores with phenomenal technology.

We have been very fortunate in our pursuit of that mission. Hundreds of paint, hardware, lumber, lawn and garden, farm and feed, and other independent retailers across the country have chosen to work with us, and dozens of manufacturers and distributors have chosen to partner with us. Along the way, we have grown to about 50 full-time employees, and we are continuing to hire as we keep marching toward that mission.

Occasionally, a candidate applies to join Rundoo who currently works at one of our clients, prospects, or partners. This could put us in a tricky situation. We deeply value the relationships we have built with our clients, prospects, and partners over the years, so I wanted to outline our philosophy when this happens.

We treat them like any other candidate

Ultimately, we have decided that we will treat these candidates just like any others. They will not be excluded from consideration because of our relationship with the counterparty, and they also will not get any special treatment for our existing relationship. We aim to exclude anyone they have worked with directly from their interview process to keep things fair on both sides. We ask all candidates to avoid sharing any non-public information during interviews, and in these particular cases, we are especially sure to highlight that.

We let the candidate set the pace with their employer

While interviewing, we let the candidate decide how and when to communicate with their employer. We encourage openness when it makes sense, and we also respect that employees may prefer discretion during a job search. That is their call to make, not ours.

We expect prompt notice if they accept

If the candidate accepts an offer, we expect they will notify their employer promptly. When that employer is also a key client or partner, we may reach out ourselves once the transition is underway, just to make sure the relationship stays transparent and strong. Our hope is always that having an alumnus at Rundoo strengthens the relationship.

We also recognize that the company may be upset by the news, and in rare cases, may even choose to stop working with us. That is a risk we knowingly take, and we will work hard to avoid it. (We would never pinch a candidate just because they happen to be in our orbit, though we will absolutely welcome them through the front door.)

The standard we hold ourselves to

Our ultimate goal is simple: build a company that serves this industry well and treats people the right way. When someone chooses to join Rundoo, we want that decision to be grounded in integrity, respect, and optimism about what we are building together.

If you ever have a question about how a hiring conversation is being handled on our end, please reach out. We would rather have the conversation directly than leave anything to assumption.
