Why independents
Independent supply stores win on the things the chains cannot copy. They are nimble, they are durable, and they are built on relationships. They adapt to their town, they keep the staff who know every contractor by name, and they invest in customers for the long haul. We do not build for big boxes, because that is a fundamentally different business. We build for the owner-operator behind the counter.
The question that changed the game was: who were my top spenders in 2022 who aren't buying from me in 2025? Rundoo AI returned a top list of 20 accounts in seconds. Without manually comparing years and running multiple reports, I had an actionable hit list for re-engagement.
The story
Rundoo started in 2020 with a simple frustration. The software running independent supply stores was old, slow, and stitched together from parts that did not talk to each other. Our founders came out of Stanford and time at Apple and Google, and they went looking for the data that should have been powering these businesses. There wasn't any. No clean inventory, no real pricing, no shared terms. So we built the foundation first, the POS. From there we kept going, into inventory, payments, accounting, and the apps an owner carries in their pocket. Today that work has brought Rundoo to more than 500 independent stores across the US and Canada, and the same idea drives every release: put everything in one system, then put AI on top of it so owners get answers, not more reports to dig through.

The team
We are about 50 Dooers across two offices, R&D in Redwood City and go-to-market in Chicago, backed by leading technology investors. The walls are covered in signed t-shirts from the stores we serve, which is the only org chart that really matters to us.
