They switched point of sale systems ten weeks after opening and went live on Rundoo in thirty-three days. When Badger Do It Best Lumber closed, Belpre lost its hardware store, and Kyle and Emily Wigal decided that was a gap worth filling. They already ran an electrical contracting business, so they knew exactly what a working store needed to stock. In June 2026 they opened Wigal Hardware and Supply in the former Peoples News building, with a warehouse out back for the conduit and PVC that was never going to fit on a shelf. The store carries just about everything, which was the plan from the start. "We want to provide Belpre with a hardware store," Kyle told the local paper before opening. "We're mainly going to be a hardware store that carries just about everything." That means plumbing and electrical supplies, power tools and hand tools, paint, lawn and garden tools, and salt when winter comes. It also means the traditional hardware store items and services, like wire, chain, rope and cable cut to length, loose fasteners, and key cutting. Contractors buy on charge accounts, about thirty of them on fifteen and thirty day terms, and the City of Belpre is one of them. The store runs with three full-time staff, nine people in total, two registers, and a truck from Orgill every Thursday. ![A Wigal Hardware employee cutting a key at the counter, next to the Keys Cut Here display](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/wigal-hardware-and-supply/key-cutting.jpg) ## Six hours to receive one truck The store opened with a general retail point of sale, and within six weeks they knew it couldn't do the one thing a store like theirs most needs. It had no connection to Orgill. Every Thursday, when the truck arrived, somebody sat down and typed the whole thing in by hand, one SKU at a time. > "When our product comes in through Orgill, I literally have to go in, type in the SKU and type in how many we received of every item we received in the book. Last week, this last order took me almost six hours, because I'd get halfway through and it would shut down and erase everything I did." With their previous point of sale software, it took over six hours to receive one order, in a store with nine people. Emily saw the problem and started looking for a new system. "When we realized that our previous point of sale system really did not have the capability to integrate with our inventory is when we realized that we needed a new system," she wrote. "We were spending so much time inputting information into a system when I realized that the system should be working for us." ## Reports that would balance themselves out, eventually The system should be working for the owner, not the other way around, and receiving orders wasn't the only issue they were having with the generic POS. The cost data was wrong in ways that quietly ate the margins on their best sellers. The store buys twelve-two electrical cable by the roll and sells it by the foot, but the roll price had been entered as the per-foot cost, so every foot of their best-selling wire showed on the reports as a loss. Chain, rope, cable and loose fasteners had the same problem. When they asked the vendor to fix it, correcting the cost going forward turned out to be the easy part, because the historical reports stayed wrong. The answer they got back was memorable, and not in a good way. > "They said it'll have to balance itself out over the next couple of years." Then there was the training. One representative taught them to receive inventory one way, another taught them a different way, and five weeks in, they were told they'd been doing it wrong from the beginning. "We've spent so many payroll hours working on inventory issues," the store told Rundoo, "and then at the end of the day, all those hours she spent was for nothing, because they told us all the wrong information." When something went wrong, there was nobody to call. "To get a person to talk to is almost absolutely impossible," they told Rundoo. "So we have to deal with text messages or chat boxes or emails." Even the charge accounts were running on a handwritten list. "We've basically had to write these notes down saying, hey, I need you to call these people because they haven't paid, or then they get missed." ## Two things on the list When the Wigals went looking for a replacement, they had two requirements. It had to integrate with Orgill, and it had to run on their Macs, because they had bought all new computers when they built the store and had no interest in doing that again. > "We have Mac, so finding something that was equivalent to be able to work with Mac and do what we needed was kind of difficult." They found Rundoo and its Orgill integration on their own, before Rundoo ever pitched it to them, because Emily had been doing the research herself. "When I was doing research on the fact that we needed something that integrated with Orgill and also worked with our existing Mac system, your point of sale system was the one that kept coming up," she wrote later. The [Orgill integration](/partners/orgill/index.md) covers ordering, receiving, price updates and item maintenance, which is to say, the entire Thursday problem. ![Rundoo running on an iMac at the Wigal Hardware checkout counter](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/wigal-hardware-and-supply/rundoo-on-imac-at-counter.jpg) There was a cheaper option on the table, one that even offered a credit toward new equipment, and that was the catch: it required new equipment. "The only difference between them and you is we'd all have to switch computers, because we have Macs," the store told Rundoo. "I don't think the owner wants to get rid of his Mac computers." Rundoo runs in a browser, so the Macs stayed. Not everything was plug and play, and some of the peripherals took work, but nobody had to give up nearly new computers. ## A fresh start, on purpose Here's where the Wigals made the call that defined the whole implementation. They chose not to migrate the old system's cost and pricing data, because they didn't trust it. Why import the problem? > "My honest opinion is a fresh start. I think it would be best if we could just print out everything, keep it for our inventory purposes for our end records, and just start fresh with you guys." The timing made it an easy decision to defend. "We're only six weeks in. So it's not like we're losing years of data." Instead of migrating bad numbers, Orgill's own order history became the source of truth for what the store had bought, what it cost, and what it should sell for. The old system contributed exactly one thing, the quantities already sold, so opening counts would be right. About eight thousand items went live. Wire, chain and rope were set up the way the trade works, stocked by the roll and sold by the foot, with the cost converted correctly. ![Spools of rope, chain and wire on the Wigal Hardware sales floor, sold by the foot](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/wigal-hardware-and-supply/rope-chain-wire-by-the-foot.jpg) ## Go-live day, with new faces at the counter In the middle of the build they had some staffing changes, so the ten-week-old store was replacing its point of sale while its org chart was changing as well, and in spite of all that, they went live as planned, without an issue. ![The Wigal Hardware team at the store counter on go-live day](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/wigal-hardware-and-supply/team-at-the-counter.jpg) > "We had some management changes during that transition. However, despite some internal challenges, the system itself has been extremely easy to work with. The support system in place is also fantastic." Kyle was pleased with the new order management. "The system seems pretty good," he said. "Looks like the orders will be a lot easier." The charge accounts came off the handwritten list too, set up on the store's real net fifteen terms with statements and finance charges built in, and when the store saw them configured in training, the verdict was quick: "This right here is just a huge blessing." ## The vibe is more positive The store now receives its Orgill truck through an integration instead of a typing marathon, sells wire by the foot with the cost figured from the roll, and calls the support it gets fantastic. The before state had a number, and it was six hours for one order. The after state is still being written, one Thursday at a time. Emily could already measure how the store staff were feeling. "Just the overall vibe within the staff is more positive," she wrote. "I can't put a number on it, but it feels fantastic." Her recommendation to other stores is short. > "We would absolutely recommend that they switch, especially someone like us in the hardware world working with Orgill. It's been wonderful." A town of seven thousand got its hardware store back. The store got a point of sale that talks to its distributor. Both happened faster than anyone had a right to expect. ![Gallery image for Wigal Hardware and Supply](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/wigal-hardware-and-supply/staff-at-mac-register.jpg) ![Gallery image for Wigal Hardware and Supply](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/wigal-hardware-and-supply/customer-at-checkout.jpg) ![Gallery image for Wigal Hardware and Supply](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/wigal-hardware-and-supply/bolts-and-washers-aisle.jpg) ![Gallery image for Wigal Hardware and Supply](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/wigal-hardware-and-supply/lawn-and-garden-tools.jpg) ![Gallery image for Wigal Hardware and Supply](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/wigal-hardware-and-supply/counter-checkout-tools.jpg) ![Gallery image for Wigal Hardware and Supply](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/wigal-hardware-and-supply/now-open-sign.jpg) Share this story [← All client stories](/clients/index.md) Suppliers & partners [Orgill](/partners/orgill/index.md) ## Recommended reading [![The best POS systems for lumber yards in 2026](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/articles/best-pos-for-lumber-yards-photo.jpg) ### The best POS systems for lumber yards in 2026 A buyer's guide to lumber yard POS systems in 2026, from Epicor BisTrack, ECI Spruce, and DMSi Agility to Flitch, GenetiQ, and Rundoo, with a plain answer on which kind of yard each one fits.](/insights/best-pos-for-lumber-yards/index.md) [![QuickBooks POS discontinued: what to switch to in 2026](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/articles/quickbooks-pos-discontinued-what-to-switch-to-photo.jpg) ### QuickBooks POS discontinued: what to switch to in 2026 Intuit discontinued QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale on October 3, 2023, and it still opens but gets no patches, support, or payments, so here is how a supply store picks a replacement that keeps the books in QuickBooks.](/insights/quickbooks-pos-discontinued-what-to-switch-to/index.md) [![Ordering from Buttery, PACOA, and your farm-and-home distributors](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/articles/pos-for-buttery-pacoa-dealers-thumb.jpg) ### Ordering from Buttery, PACOA, and your farm-and-home distributors How farm, ranch, and feed stores that buy from Buttery, PACOA, Wallace, and Orgill turn distributor ordering into a search and a scan instead of a portal and a clipboard.](/insights/pos-for-buttery-pacoa-dealers/index.md) ## More hardware stores on Rundoo [### Damascus Do It Best Hardware Damascus, OH](/clients/damascus-hardware/index.md) [![A & D Hardware](https://pub-5247264bd04e4ebeaecbbedb3bebb9f8.r2.dev/static/images/clients/a-d-hardware-storefront.jpg) ### A & D Hardware Coatesville, Indiana](/clients/a-d-hardware/index.md) [### Adam's True Value Hardware Scranton, Pennsylvania](/clients/adams-true-value-hardware/index.md) ## Keep exploring Rundoo [### Rundoo for hardware stores See how the platform is built for a store like this one.](/industries/hardware/index.md) [### Tour the product POS, inventory, payments, and AI in one system.
