Westerly Paints has been part of my family since 1988, when my father opened our first store. I grew up around paint cans, customer conversations, and the unique rhythm of running a local business. In many ways, this store has shaped who I am, since it taught me the value of community, hard work, and providing something meaningful to the people around us. ‍ A couple of years ago, my brother and I officially took the reins from our dad. It was a proud moment, but it also came with big shoes to fill. We wanted to preserve what made Westerly Paints special while also modernizing some of the ways we worked. We’ve always believed in giving customers personal, attentive service, but behind the scenes, we knew we could be more efficient and organized. ‍ Like many small businesses, we were using a legacy POS system that, frankly, felt like the only option. It got the job done, but it wasn’t intuitive or built for the way we wanted to work. Honestly, we didn’t think much about switching. We assumed all systems were more or less the same. That changed when a team from Rundoo stopped by our store one day. ‍ At first, I was skeptical. We already had a system in place, so why fix what wasn’t "totally broken"? But I appreciated their low-pressure approach. They simply asked to show me what their POS could do. Once I saw Rundoo in action, it opened my eyes. I realized there was so much more a POS could offer, and that we were limiting ourselves by staying with what we’d always used. ‍ The Rundoo platform was noticeably cleaner, faster, and more intuitive. The search function alone was a game changer. Being able to quickly find past customer orders or look up product history made a huge difference, both for our team and our customers. It’s the kind of daily efficiency that adds up: less time struggling with clunky menus, more time helping people in the store. ‍ Since switching to Rundoo, our operations have become more streamlined and user-friendly. The system feels like it was designed with retailers like us in mind. Training staff is easier, pulling up information is quicker, and overall, we’ve cut down on a lot of the small frustrations that used to slow us down. ‍ If there’s one piece of advice I’d give other paint stores considering a change, it’s this: don’t be afraid to explore new solutions.
